It may only be July, but it's back to school for the teachers before our students come. It's that time of year where we go full force with our classroom decor, standard analysis, lesson planning, and PLCs. But one thing that I think is so important is making sure you have that perfect teacher wardrobe so you're ready to transition from summer to school year.
This is the time of year where I usually clean out my closet, donate what I don't wear anymore, and make sure I am stocked on the basics so I can mix and match. This year that will have to wait until I have this baby (who knows what I will still fit into!) but I found some great splurges and saves for those every day necessities for your teacher wardrobe.
Basic tees are a must to mix and match with. They can be worn with dress pants, skirts, tied up, or paired with a cardigan or a kimono. Lately I've been on the trend of tying my tee over a dress because of the bump!
Cardigans/sweaters are a staple in my wardrobe for the classroom. The temperature is never consistent so it's nice to always have one to thrown on. Plus if you want to wear that tank top or non-dress code appropriate top, you can throw the cardigan on top and now your outfit still works!
Dresses and jumpsuits are perfect for dressing up or dressing down. I always, always check the measurements and reviews though to make sure the length will be good for the classroom and so that it isn't too sheer (otherwise I wear my lace extenders). I love a basic t-shirt dress that I can layer a cardigan over, or a maxi that I'm comfortable in all day long.
Let's be real, when you're on your feet running around your classroom all day you want to be comfortable. My go-to shoes are my Birkenstocks and I'm dying for another pair...I just don't want to spend the money right now! I love my leather Birks and have fallen even more in love with my waterproof ones (I convinced my best friend they're amazing and she already bought two pairs!). I also live in my my Nikes and my platform flats. Sometimes when I want to dress it up a bit I'll wear a wedge or a chunky heel so I'm still comfortable but don't look like one of my eighth graders!
I could go on and on, but these are just some of my favorites (and basics) that I always make sure I have in my wardrobe for the beginning of the year. I hope you're ready for the school year too and have some fun with your back to school shopping too! I know I spend far too much on my students and classroom and have to remember to treat myself as well!
