A Court of Thorns and Roses Series

​Oh my, what I thought was going to be a lighthearted fantasy novel turned into so much more!  I found a Court of Thorns and Roses in a discounted section and snagged it because the storyline sounded interesting.  Here I am a month later reading another one of Sarah J Maas’ series because I am hooked.

I saw a few people mention that it was hard to read, the plot took too long to develop, there isn’t enough foreshadowing, etc, but in my mind that makes me want to read more because I had to know what was happening. Books are often too predictable, you know how the love story will end, the hero is who you expected. Of course some things are still predictable but it was still fun to see how the rest turned out in this series because some things happened that did surprise me a little! 

​This is the story of a mortal girl, Feyre, who kills a Fae in the woods one day, of course she didn’t know at the time. She’s whisked away to Prythian, home of the Fae, where she will live the rest of her days as punishment for murdering the wolf. The story develops with Feyre and Tamlin - gets real spicy in there, and then comes Amarantha, our villain.

Honestly it took me a bit to figure out the whole plot of why Tamlin took her but I like that. I hate when books get too predictable. There were just some weird parts with Lucien that threw me off, but eventually you learn what the curse entails.  I ended up falling in love with Rhysand over Tamlin through the whole series though, go figure, I picked the one from the "dark side", how typical.

​In A Court of Mist and Fury, Feyre is now a new person (won’t spoil it for you totally…) and has a bargain with Rhysand - the High Lord of the Night Court.  I loved how the characters developed in this book and how Feyre and Rhysand stories intertwine, obviously we find our new love connection and it’s much better than Tamlin in my opinion. The story continues into the next book, A Court of Wings and Ruin and you still see a glimpse of what happened to Tamlin and what the war truly means throughout all the different courts. 

Through the series you follow Feyre’s story twisted with Tamlin, Rhysand, and her family as well. Speaking of family, Nesta (her oldest sister) is such a good character, so hardened and cruel which made her character development so much better - the last book was one of my favorites and centered around her.  I think the main climax of the final book really showed what changes can happen within a person and what sacrifices people will make for those they love.

I wasn’t sure if the Fae and Faeries would be for me but now I've already finished two Fae series and have started another. These books were easy to read and the story kept me wanting more.  If you are not into spicy novels be warned there are some scenes you will need to skip throughout the entire series because hello details, but overall I enjoyed the story and how it had a true ending. It's marketed as Young Adult Fiction but honestly this series is not for teenagers in my opinion. I'm still upset that my last book doesn't match the rest of the set, but it's now available in softcover, or you can get the whole series in hardcover. 

This series is so good if you like action, adventure, love, and growth.  It was truly such an easy read and I enjoyed the world that she created.  You easily get sucked into the world of magic and care about the characters. It's hard to put these books down and I foresee myself reading them again in the future. PS the books are on sale on the Kindle right now if you have one!
