I don't know about you but I am a sucker for sports romance books. It all started when I read The Deal - Elle Kennedy, part of the Off Campus series, and instantly fell in love. I immediately read the Briar U series after! I will have to say hockey romance probably has my heart (I grew up playing hockey so I have some bias here) but after that is baseball and football. If you haven't read Meghan Quinns Brentwood Boys series - FREE in KU *SPICY* I highly recommend if you are dipping your toes into the sport romance world as well. My most recent hockey romance read was Icebreaker by Hannah Grace. I loved Nate and he’s the main reason for the four stars I gave this book. I was sick and read this book in a day. Overall I expected this to be a fluff romance read with spice (oh she brought the spice, don’t you worry), but it kind of dragged on. I feel like it did that because there was a lot of time invested in side characters. I want this to be a series because I too am invested in Henry (and Russ), but I felt like a lot of this could be cut. It was also lot of their day to day living, like I get building the story but we could have cut a lot of that and saved it for other books in the series, etc. But anyway. I enjoyed Anastasia even though she did annoy me. She and her figure skating partner Aaron drive me crazy, he is the worst kind of person where he projects his trauma on his “friends” and she hangs onto him for soooo long. She has done a lot of therapy for herself but even though she is blunt and direct with her feelings she can’t ever seem to do that with Aaron. I don’t know if annoyed me but probably because it’s more realistic that way too. Also I like she is direct with her no attachments but also what about Ryan? Unless we get his story I’m going to feel like he will always be jealous of Nathan now because that situation was a little off — hookup buddies, just friends that cuddle…., just friends? But; her becoming friends with all the hockey boys was great. We love a girlfriend that is also friends with hers friends and like to piss each other off (I.e. JJ). Nathan was obviously my favorite character because of how much he wanted her. I love it when the guy falls first and boy did he. Here is where you will find all the spice, falling from this sweet, romantic, supportive, filthy mouthed man. “Can you be a good girl and be quiet?” Need I say more? TLDR: predictable yet cute story, grumpyxsunshine reverse, slightly too long, read it for Nathan The other two sports romance books I read recently are part of the Red Zone Rivals series by Kandi Steiner (all included in KU). I fell in LOVE with the first book "Blind Side" because Clay is just the dream. The second book "Fair Catch" was also good so I decided to continue the series. The third book "Quarterback Sneak" was so good, I devoured it and am officially in love with Holden. Once I saw Hail Mary coming out I realized I had to read this one first and I’m glad I did. You get glimpses of Mary and Leo and I love it. The story is what you expect, forbidden football romance, did will bench anyone that tries to touch his daughter, etc, but I will say I was happy with the third act breakup compared to how they normally make me feel. Also we just love all these football players and Holden is just the sweetest. “You can take everything else away from me. But you can’t take her” *swoon* Of course right after I had to download "Hail Mary" because I needed to see Leo and Mary's story but sadly it did not hold up to Holden or Clays. I hyped myself up for this but this didn't live up to my expectations. It wasn't bad at all, just wasn't what I wanted. Mary drove me a little crazy, like yes was your high school experience awful? Yes, but did he know? No!(which was a little hard to believe but also he seemed totally oblivious so I'll take this second chance). Mary and Leo end up as roommates while her apartment is being fixed and obviously his teammates fall in love with her because she is unapologetically herself with them (tattoos and video games). Leo has been in love with her since he was 15, he just didn't know who she was because he thought she was ghosted - again Mary, all you had to do was communicate! We get to see their relationship develop, she finally admits what happens, all the spice, the third act breakup (again, just talk to him MARY!), and then a sweet ending, I died in the epilogue FREAKING CLAY - I love him if you couldn't already tell. But again, I did really enjoy the book, obviously love daddy Leo and would still recommend the series!
