Hey friends, I hope you're having a great start to your New Year! I haven't made a set goal of how many books to read a month, just a yearly goal of trying to read 100. I am definitely ahead of schedule though because I have already read 13 books this month and only one DNF.
Let's start with the DNF. If you don't know, DNF means "did not finish". If I am not finishing a book there often tends to be a reason and this one was I could not get into the story at all. The Dead Romantics was what I didn't finish and honestly it just wasn't for me. Linked my Goodreads review below...
The Dead Romantics by Ashley Poston
My rating: 2 of 5 stars I could not get into this story at all...The premise seemed interesting but it didn't hook me. The stereotypes and writing about them was cringey to me. The continual mention of her small town and how the golden retriever is their mayor was annoying. Also the idea of the town running her out/shunning her because she solved a mystery with a ghost, even though her family is the one that runs the morgue was also odd. I've seen plenty of good reviews and that's why I decided to read it but I'm glad I just borrowed it from the library because this book is not for me at all. DNF - Jan 2023 View all my reviews
Now for the good stuff!
I re-read The Love Hypothesis for my Book Club and it is still just such a sweet story. Grumpy x sunshine, fake dating, and overall so cute! Divergent was okay, I shouldn't have watched the movie first because that ruined it for me, but I got way more into Insurgent and need to finish the series because I want to know Four's story! Not That Kind of Ever After was okay... You can check out myGoodReads review but it just wasn't my favorite and the same goes forLittle Fires Everywhere. I think I had it hyped up more in my head and it was just more anticlimactic than I anticipated. A Painted Lily was a cute read, age gap romance and finding more about who you are. This was a sweet story I would recommend if you are looking for a romance. Ok now we get to where my entire life gets consumed by Fantasy Fiction. I am OBSESSED with Zodiac Academy - All included in KU. I had a hard time with the first book, there is a lot of bullying and harassment but once you get into the world and realize what is happening and what is going on you realize where it comes from. It still upset me BUT I kept going and now I am completed addicted and need to know what is happening. I ended up book 6 and I am dying to know what is going to happen because Darius is the real MVP in the end of the book and I am in love him even though he is a power hungry d!ck. And finally I started readingKingdom of the Wicked with a friend for a buddy ready, we finished it in a few days and now I am already starting the second because it is so good and I am here for Wrath our morally grey character that I am obviously going to fall in love with.
I try to set a TBR (to be read) for the month but I obviously don't always stick to it because I do tend to be a mood reader. But so far for February here are some that I plan on reading/finishing because I just started them or have been wanting to read them!
